Shutting down the government really doesn't matter. Parks close after a while, and non-essential employees don't work but that's it. Just everyone makes a big deal out of nothing. It's the debt ceiling that's a no go, don't touch it at all costs. Which is dumb because it's stupid as fuck that it exists, but if you go against that you're screwing. ICE already does that. Read about the 7/11 sweeps, the random doctor deportations, kids in hospitals getting entered into the system. It does have an impact because it forces these stupid one month deal that fucks over every agency in the government, especially the military, and our military is already shit lately. It doesn't matter. They get an extra day off. THE HORRORS!!!!!!!! It has no long term consequences.

So if its prolonged people lose out on money, thats part of the disaster. A day isn't a big deal, but it could be disastrous if both sides keep being stubborn. It may have a long term consequences for those who gets in debt because of a government shutdown.

Democrats backed down because they realized it wasn't getting anywhere, and they were not getting enough support for continuing the shutdown over DACA. They decided to give Republicans a chance as a goodwill gesture to get DACA up by next deadline. Knowing the Republican party, I don't expect that to happen. The last shutdown lasted 16 days, and it absolutely had consequences. It cost something like 25 billion. Sure, that is pennies next to the US GDP but still consequential to quite a few government employees.

There was support. DACA routinely polls at around 80% support. People want DACA.

OutRosezGOP is releasing "the" memo, which they claim will end the Mueller investigation lol. Democrats, in response, have their own memo to discredit the GOP memo, but Republicans have the majority in both houses so they voted against releasing the Democrat memo. But they have the majority to release the Republican memo. What is amusing is the GOP memo was written by Republicans themselves and Democrat memo was written by Democrats themselves. It's Nunes situation all over again (for those not sure, Nunes is a Republican who got some information on some surveillance on Trump staff during campaign and cited source as classified but the source was the Trump administration itself, then Nunes got caught lying with his pants down lol). Nunes made this memo as well. None of the supporting documents will be released since they require top clearance.

Dems can (and should) just read the memo they have. Since we're all for partisan bullshit at least get the truth out there ala Pentagon Papers.

They can't without risking arrest and getting some crazy felony charges like threatening national security/traitor to the USA/etc lol. Nobody will go there by risking their career. You know how politicians are. But imagine if Bernie or someone well respected read it. They ain't keeping him in jail without risking riots across the country. So he might be able to get away with it, but his career would be surely finished.

Plus no one enforces that anyway, look at what happened to Feinstein when she released classified info, nada.

Considering how partisan both houses have become, I suspect that the Republicans will go out of their way to make an exception and go after whoever were to release the Democrat memo without permission. I truly don't mind releasing the Democrat memo regardless of the Republican response tbh because it would be a partisan move as it is to release the Republican memo only while refusing the Democrat memo. If that memo refutes even portions of the Republican memo then it has to come out one way or another. I also think it is complete nonsense that it would kill the Russia investigation lol. Just a few Republican Senators trying to pump it up for more than it is.. The memo is against the FBI handling of initial Russia investigation pertaining to Trump under President Obama. Has zero to do with Mueller.

I have seen worse on ish and the lengths Trump fans go to defend Trump no matter what he says or does. Just typical Trumpeters. Trump was right, his voters will stay on his side even if he shot somebody to death.. One thing he got right.
