I don't think you need to be a car guy to enjoy it, I'm certainly not myself. Almost feels like more of a shonen battle series in it's approach to races. It's fun to watch Takumi realize his full potential as the series progresses. Hmm.. The only other thing that would weigh against me watching is if there is a shit load of episodes other than Initial D. I am a franchise completionist, so anything that I choose to add to my list must be watched in its entirety.

Mobile Suit Gundam is on my list yet, I'll check it out eventually. I think there is a shit load of different variations. Which one? Origins (OVA) (think this was MSG) Thunderbolt Iron Blood Orphans (don't advise you to watch this one) 00 0096 RE

Macross Plus is one of the most visually impressive anime I've ever seen from an animation standpoint Shame that one of the animators passed away.

I'm downloading second stage now, I'll probably watch everything right away.

Second stage has been a disappointment so far. The switch from cell animation to digital being the biggest reason, second just feels cheap in comparison to first. Also the music hasn't been as good, and there's a lot more drama then there was in First. Sticking with it, hoping it turns around. The entire season is building up to one big race at the end so I hope it pays off.

I might be the only one who was a little disappointing by second stage. A lot of reviews talk about it having better character development which I would agree, I just found First more fun as a whole. Third was good though, animation was better as you would expect for a movie, and Takumi finally became passionate about racing. The rest of the series doesn't exactly fit with the theme of this thread but I'll keep my thoughts in here anyways for the time being.

Kinda want to look into Yamato, but I'm unsure if I should watch the original or go with the more recent 2199. Leaning towards the latter at the moment.

I would start with the Yamato 2199 and then the 2202, but that's just me. Everytime there is an earlier alternative version made in the '70s to '80s, I would watch the sooner one first and then the older one if possible. If you have access to all the older episodes, then that's what I would go with. In general, I don't see them in stream sites (all the episodes) whether it's Kinnikuman Osomatsu Devilman (possibly, haven't checked this one) etc hence I watch the sooner adaptation I was planning to eventually watch that. Heard good things about the series

Aim for the Ace holds up surprisingly well for a show that came out in 73. The animation is about what you would expect for a show it's age, but it's not terrible, and I even find the visual style of it appealing. Being the first anime Madhouse ever produced it's not surprising to see them become the powerhouse they are now. Also seeing this I know realize just how much it inspired Gunbuster. Very similar in structure and characters, just one is with mecha.

Aim for the Ace was a decent watch. The first 10 or so episodes had me really engaged as Oka starts to love tennis. After that it becomes somewhat formulaic, but it did finish fairly strong. You have to have a tolerance for some of that early animation though, lots of sequences of recycled animation. The use of an organ to emphasize dramatic moments tended to make me laugh, the music in general was very 70s. If you're interested in seeing the first anime Madhouse ever produced I'd say it holds up well enough.

Second movie had a real slow start. But the last half was great stuff. Reminds me of Light vs L
Will definitely look forward to the ova.
Also both movies have some great classical pieces for their fighting. I don't like them generally muting the battles though. I would prefer if they lower the sound volume but increase the music volume.
First gayish moment of lotgh witnessed with the hair twirling. Lel

The ships better be shooting lasers because if those are more like missiles or non rapid fire weapon, i am not a fan of continuous blue line animation. Seems lazy but the ship destruction animations make up for that

Accurate. I'd say the jungle episodes were my favorite. Really like the mech designs too, very tank like. Even has tank treads on the feet for the majority of movement.

Yang was definitely my favorite through the show, but there were several likable characters on both sides. Yeah I also liked Reinhard with his approach to strategy. Not enough exposure yet to figure out if other characters are meaningful but I heard LotGH has a shit ton of characters (and they pull it off well)

Looks like the first two episodes of the OVA will cover the second half of the second movie. I dare say, the first OVA episode does a much better in not only exposition (like actually having Dusty read Yang's plans before the event actually happened), but also pacing and direction. Also I liked Lap's death better in this one. Everything felt smoother and natural flow. Beautiful.
I was wondering how the OVA is going to start and it did not disappoint.

Kircheis' reason for following Reinhard is because of what seems to be a crush on Annerose? That's a bit much.
Oberstein with the cybernetic eyes, already the closest out of the show to being a robot. Nice
No doubt about it. Yang Wenli best character by far.
