Yeeeah. This is a really late thread. I actually thought this was a February nomination. Kek Anyways. Great first episode, especially the second half. Love the animation The choreography of the way a MC, who has shown struggles of fighting, continues those struggles as he fights those opponents much the same way (aggressive) instead of the typical isekai you see in other main characters (konk his opponents in the head with wood instead of naturally handling some kind of sword, leaping but missing the mark, crashing into the floor after transporting to new world, etc.
The visual effects and the camera angles utilized were also well done. Had no complaints.

This show has quite the impactful dark tone and themes involved, but with a few of the characters fighting back already and the building realization of the children's own consequential actions but "necessary"

No real superpower except for a person that doesn't want to use it, struggling and fighting for their lives against a gigantic creature with what they have. Nice.

Although the antagonist was indeed annoying and the minion was unexplainably loyal despite the minion being stronger, this series handled the controversial themes well and concluded well.
Certainly a show not what a recent anime fan would expect on a series diving into another world. I will say that this is my new favorite isekai
If it wasn't for some of the episodes that were bit on the slow side somewhere in the middle and a good number of characters that felt flat, I would have given this a 9. For the time being, I'll give it a strong 8.

The Sara stuff is hard to watch sometimes, with all the implied rape. It was handled rather well since they didn't prolong any scenes, you get the gist of how terrible that world is, pushes the boundaries of tolerance based on the preexisting conditions (the hierarchy boss who has the "power" wants more soldiers and there is a lack of females within that population), and the it's "understandable" why the male characters are going to great lengths (although hasn't explained why the need to treat her like shit)

Damn, I knew something bad was gonna happen at the end of episode 12 but that still hit pretty hard.

I'll agree with the rating of 8. Visually it was nothing special, but it did the job. When it wanted to be emotional it was effective. Had this on my PTW list for years so it was nice to finally check it out.
{Spoiler} Having heard how sad this anime was I wasn't really expecting Shu to come out of it alive. He was almost saintly at times with his unwillingness to kill. Thought he might end up sacrificing himself to save everyone. Also not to get too political but I don't see why Sara getting an abortion after being raped is being discouraged. I suppose the importance of all life is kinda a key theme throughout the show but I had a hard time getting behind that.

Visually it was nothing special, but it did the job Yeah it was nothing special, but I really liked how episode 1 was animated. As for your spoiler {Spoiler}I'm actually not surprised. There are very selected few out of all the anime in which the main character dies. There are more main characters that survive despite behavior is that of a reckless individual or one who is willing to sacrifice his physical health in order to protect. The more common thing for the main character's deaths results in leaving a "legacy" behind as being an impactful character. Shu never had that impact (or at least demonstrated much of his mark in the series). As for the abortion thing. Yeah the show kept insisting through Shu and Sis that she should keep the baby. If we were to say the creators are just using the character personalities to set up their beliefs rather than use those characters as an outlet, I can see why both would support that route. Shu is too young and hasn't understood the impact of rape. He cares about protecting the well being in general and is an optimist. Sis takes care of kids for a living, so not surprised she has that viewpoint.
