Hi guys, as promised I will randomly be giving out my opinion on sport related news. All these opions will have HUGE bias and most likely be incorrect and in all honesty will bore you to the point of losing any of the respect(which is probably non existent already) that you might have of me.
Today I take on Bisping vs Henderson 2.
UFC 100 was a LONG time ago, but it doesn't feel quite like that.
, things have changed a lot both in and out of the Octagon. The date was July 11th, 2009. More than 7 years ago. I was 13 for fucks sake. Let's talk a just little about how much the sport has changed.
It's nearly impossible to name any of the big names(top 10 p4p)in the sport from that time frame and have them still be relevant in today's version of MMA. Fighters were no where near as good as fighters from this era, albeit not nearly as amateurish and one dimensional as those fighting in the UFC a decade before them. For example a guy like Chuck Lidell was considered a great striker, compare him to any fighter in today's prelims and he'll look like your drunk uncle fighting of a bee attack.
Anyways that night of UFC 100 was huge mostly due to heavyweight champion and former WWE megastar, Bork Laser. Bork had won the championship in quite boring matter, he had no real match for his strenght and wrestling prowess. It wasn't really his fault in all honesty, there was no real competion in that division and if there was they still didn't have the name to enter this grand stage with him( Cain Velasquez and JDS for example) except for Frank Mir. The man that beat him by submission in his UFC debut. The amount of shit talking also added even more interest to this already huge event. This match was why I was watching. I wanted to see Bork F5 Mir right on his neck and follow it with a perfect shooting star press.
That was my first UFC purchase or should I say my dad's lol. Anyways I don't remember most of that event besides the main event of course....oh and some guy was almost murdered right in front of my eyes. That guy's name is Michael Bisping. I had no clue who he was before this and even if I did I qite honestly didn't care. But that night I was worried about his health. The right hand that Dan Henderson hit him with( and the follow up) is honestly the most brutal thing I've ever seen in this sport. He really hated Bisping and he proved it. Bork was an after thought to me after this. That single punch changed my outlook on the sport, I fell in love with. It also made me underestimate and ignore anything Bisping did going forward.
Tonight however Bisping is champion is the deserving champion and Dan Henderson is probably the guy that doesn't belong in there. He knocked out Rockhold, the guy who demolished Weidman. Weidman the guy who dominated Anderson "The GOAT" Silva. Remember how I said that no one from that time frame is relevant in today's sport? Well the exception to that is Dan Henderson. This dude has an incredible resume, he finished Fedor, bruh. One thing he hasn't done though is be UFC champion. He had one chance against Jon Jones but it had factors that didn't allow the fight to happen, it was unfortunate but we all knew that he didn't stand a change against Jon. No one really does. Dan has a real chance this time around, not because of his athleticism (he's almost 50), or his versatility( he can't wresletle no where near the way he could), even though his striking is his one real weapon, it's an atomic bomb tier kind of weapon. His right hand is so devastating, it's scary even if it is predictable as the weather, the weather man is wrong sometimes... often actually, his resume is proof of that.
Dan wins tonight.
You probably want to know how he'll do it. It's simple, by using Bisping's thirst for revenge against him. Michael was humbled and humiliated 7 years ago and he will never be able to write that off his resume. Bisping feels like he needs to knockout Dan to earn the respect of most fan, so they can see him as a legit champion. But that might be his undoing. I hope it is. This is Dan's last fight and I hope he goes out on top. He deserves it.
