Gendry woke up to a gentle tug at his side, it was dark and he could not make out the figure hovering over his face at first; he squinted his eyes waiting for them to adjust to the darkness. Before that could happen, he felt the figure's head get close to his face, Gendry wanted to say something but a familiar voice whispered to him: "good, you are alive". Gendry recognized the speaker immediately, the Red woman's soothing voice was both welcome and troubling - considering the last thing he remembered of her. "Why did you bring me here? what else do you want from me?" Gendry's protests came in a hushed tone, he was not sure where he was, but the rough floor against his back and the smell of stale air gave him some idea. Gendry could now make out the red priestess's features, he was not sure, but she looked disturbed, "I assure you, this is not my doing" Melisandre paused, looked to the side and continued in a low tone: "this is the work of no man, but a much more powerful being. Alas, the Lord of Light shall light our path, cause the night is dark and full of terrors". Gendry's heart sank, he had never seen the Red woman rattled, he had seen what she was capable; if she was scared then may Mother have mercy on them all.
A noise to Gendry's left made him sit up so quickly that he smashed Melisandre in the cheek, the red woman groaned a curse and pulled back, clearly dazed. Gendry moved to apologise and help her but suddenly felt a hand grab at his ankle, before the late king's bastard could react, the hand pulled with such a strong force that made him yelp in surprise and be dragged away. Gendry tried to grasp at anything and everything in a frantic effort to save himself, but all in vain, finally he gathered all his courage, he pulled his legs up toward his stomach and reached for the hand grabbing him. The sudden move caught the attacker by surprise and a figure fell to the ground beside Gendry with a grunt, the bastard of Robert Baratheon gained a second breath as he realised this was just an ordinary man, thus with renewed strength, he kicked his aggressor away. Both men got to their feet and regarded each other in the darkness for a few heartbeats, panting, then Gendry lunged at his foe as to take advantage of his size. The other man moved with inhuman agility, rendering Gendry's gamble fruitless, the boy hit the ground with a thump; all hope gone. He heard a blade unsheathed behind, careful steps approached. A bastard died in silence.
