I've tried several on different sites. I think with the camaraderie we have here, we could make some pretty epic stories! If anyone is interested, I was thinking of a ASoIaF/GoT skin for it, I think most people on this site are familiar with the books or show. Bob @boogiewoogiewam

However I'd be willing to join and then bail on this, sure.

However I'd be willing to join and then bail on this, sure. Essentially, we could start at any point, Robert's rebellion, War of the 5 kings, Aegon's conquest etc.. You would have x amount of days to correspond with each other as head of the various houses (Starks, Lannisters etc.. ) to set up your alliances and your moves based on the scenarios the dungeon master gives you. You turn those in to the DM (any move made with you and an ally, both need to send in to confirm, plots and schemes). You have the first turn right off the bat, a mid turn and then another full turn. Basically, you'd start (beginning game) then the first update would be 3 or 6 mos (mid turn) and then the next turn would be 6 or 12 mos (Turn 2,3,4 etc..)

I can also send you some links to the games played on other sites, if you'd like closer inspection.
I think a Robert's Rebellion would be dope.

I would like to play D&D, always wanted to try in real life but the level of nerdiness of the participants always threw me off.

Robert's Rebellion
Targaryen Baratheon Stark Lannister Tyrell Dorne Tully Arryn
We'd need 8 to start, 9 if we add the Iron Islands.
Certain houses would start out as allies. Stark, Baratheon, Tully & Arryn. Targaryen and Dorne. Lannister and Tyrell could go either way or neither. As the game progresses, alliances could shift, backstabs, plots etc..
We don't have to use this scenario, but it helps outline how one might look.

Another idea is to do just house from the Vale, North, etc... We can take a vote. That could be done with less players.

I haven't watched Game of Thrones before but it seems like an interesting story (not because I dislike the show, just not a big TV guy; maybe I should check the books out). Would I need to know a lot of the backstory? Or would it just be something in that universe, with self-contained rules, character types, etc.?

You don't really need any background (but I recommend the books to everyone!!!). Anything you want to find can be found at ASoIaF wiki, but spoilers and such. I'll pick a time period before the show/books begin. It'll be self contained.

If boogie commits, we'd have the minimum we'd need.

No, you get a few days to talk among each other through PM's and then to the DM. You'd have a deadline over a course of a few days.

Let me think about it. I'm actually thinking of going on a internet cleanse for a couple of weeks at the start of June when my classes end.
Plus, whose going to be the DM?

Random question actually. So thinking back, I have two experiences with tabletop RPGs:
1) The mall near where I grew up had a hobby shop, where they always had massive setups for Warhammer. Like it took up a good third of a pretty decently sized store.
2) Thinking back, I remember in freshman year of high school, a few times from the anime club tried to get a group together to play something. I went twice, and remember some of the details:
• When we put our character sheets together, it wasn't for characters, but for ships (as in it took place in space) • I don't remember if there was much of a story, it might've been just some quick generic background to make it easier for people to get into it • It was a pretty generic board, I think just a mat with hexes (might have been asteroids on it? or maybe it was a blank printout), some twenty sided dice I think, and we had ships on stands for our characters • Thing took place in space, there were encounters and such; some were based on rolls, but there were also NPC ships (some enemies, some friendly, though it wasn't revealed until you either landed on the same or adjacent hexes); I don't remember if there was an end goal (maybe it was to take on the enemy fleet?) • The initial status of our ships came from rolls when putting together character sheets, but we had opportunities to build up our ships based on how things progressed
Does it sound familiar? We played around 01 or 02 I think. Nothing else remarkable about it. Remember it being pretty fun. Guessing it was just some nameless thing he put together but just wondering.

He had a gamebook, so I don't think he made it up completely.

He had a gamebook, so I don't think he made it up completely. Sounds like an elaborate D&D game. I haven't played any games like this in "real" life just over the internet. I've only ever played 1 before and I'm playing 2 right now. I've never DM'd before, so like I said, I'll need help and patience if we ever get one started here.

We have 4 at the moment, with @boogiewoogiewam riding the fence because he doesn't like or respect living in the future.
