FYI, the first two episodes are movie duration 1 hour and 30 minutes and the last two episodes are around 50ish minutes. Be prepared for that

For episode 1,
I'm liking the motorcycle animated scenes. None of the characters really interested me, but the mystery element of the story of the underground base is enough to keep me interested. Given the perspective and time skip of episode 2, was rather disappointed that there isn't more exploration and background of episode 1 and didn't like how episode 1 ended if they were going to do the timeskip.

Episode 2, I found episode 2 animation slightly better, but the story was bad and there wasn't a good flow. After all those years, nothing about the bike was done despite the desperation in the first episode. The characters underwent a significant personality shift too and not for the better. Hardly any information was revealed and it yet remains an inconclusive, unsatisfying ending thanks to yet another timeskip for episode 3.
Also more lewd than episode 1

Episode 3-4, This was worse than episode 2.... No redeeming qualities as all across the board, the quality went down New main characters weren't a good idea. Timeskip is not a good idea. Just....

Starting it.
The character designs scream "MACROSSE!" out loud.
And Japanese 80's pop song.
Gosh, everything is so 80's.

Is this the coolest motorcycle commercial ever made in the 80's?

OH SHIT IT'S BASICALLY THE MATRIX MAIN PLOT! DAMN YOU, WARSHAWSKY SISTERS!! Yeah that part of it caught me off guard. I was trying to figure out why the military would give a shit about a bike that goes really fast, seemed very silly. Saved the first episode from being a disappointment for me. I kinda enjoy the super 80s elements from it, the cheesy characters and interactions drag it down though.

I'm mixed on episode 2. Characters and interactions were still terrible. The gore scenes were impressive though, and they didn't hold back on the sex scenes. Animation was a step up too. They try so hard to make this biker gang look cool though and it just comes across as corny as hell. That scene where the one biker chick gives the finger as she's dying just made me laugh. The main character also didn't seem too bothered that everyone outside his small group died a horrible death.

I mostly agree, although I did still get some enjoyment from the 80s vision of futuretech. This series makes me think of a bad but enjoyable b-movie. Some cool ideas being implemented here, just done with some questionable execution.

Cool look at the history behind Megazone 23
Also learned that "missile weaving" Hellfire Missile Pack referred to before has a name. "The Itano Circus", named after Macross animator Ichiro Itano.

I feel like if they didn't timeeskip and explored more of the underground actual world instead of the fake world up top, it would be more interesting than what they have

The Itano Circus makes me think of Italiano Circus. I prefer missile waving since that's more cooler than circus.
As for the Megazone 23, I'm puzzled why Itano thought that design was better than the similar Macross design that the animator when it doesn't. Macross character designs aren't even the best designs too. The video is indeed very informative and because AIC got greedy, Megazone unnecessarily suffered. A bunch of unfortunate events in addition ruined a potential great series as the premise was fascinating.
