As discussed, for those that are/will continue to be interested, please finish Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu before end of October. You can watch them in the following stream sites if you don't download: kissanime.ru or 9anime.to or another anime stream site. This is at your OWN pace. I don't really care for the Rakugo part, so I'm not getting as much enjoyment as some others, but the seiyuus are doing a good job of it. The character situations are what drives the show and keeps it from being meh for me (at least for now)

I like the nice jazzy OST. Certainly the highlight of the show.

Second season is off to a better start than the first season in my opinion. That rant in the end makes this the best episode I've seen in all of the franchise so far.

The second to last episode ruined the good flow of the show. Shame. Doesn't change its score though. Liked second season a little better. First season was close to 7/10, second season was close to 8/10, but weighing the two based on averages, it comes out 7/10.

Jam would definitely have a field day near the end of the first season all the way to the end of second season.

Slowly climbing up to ep#3. The Master was so damn lucky not being drafted thanks to his leg AND not living in either Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Also, his best bro basically is Hayashiya Sanpei I. You know him as the guy who inspires Pokemon's Wobbuffet.

The Master was so damn lucky not being drafted thanks to his leg AND not living in either Hiroshima or Nagasaki. And also lucky to have been well off as he was able to be trained directly under a guy who owed a good debt to his family.

I didn't care much for the Rakugo. Not being into that kind of entertainment makes long segments not enjoyable.
The overall story arc was interesting along with the themes of tradition and pursuing what you desire in life. How the show portrays Kiku‘s character progression was great while not straying from his core characteristics.
Not my cup of tea

Only finished the first season, but I'll probably check the second out soon. I'm with ballup in that I found the actual Rakugo segments pretty boring. The first 2 episodes were a bit of a chore to get through, so I started a bit down on this series. Glad I stuck with it though because it got progressively better as it went on. I actually sympathized with Miyokichi, at least until the end where she abandoned her family. Even then though a lot of her and Sukeroku issues go back to Kikuhiko's leaving them and trying to live on his own. Really good show, don't know that I have any deeper appreciation for the art of rakugo though.

At the end, rakugo is a very Japanese thing that is a lot harder for outsiders to appreciate than other stuff.
But at least you can try it done by a white dude in English.

I thought the Rakugo shown in the second season is of higher quality than the first.
