I bet most people my age don't even know her name well that's to be expected with time unless ur an international icon. lots of people my age know who prince was but probably didn't listen to his music plus neo soul isn't as popular today as it was the 90s / early 2000s

I remember hearing prince a lot growing up that's u tho. not that erykah is on prince's level popularity wise at all, but people know the names "purple rain" and "when doves cry" but don't actually listen to his music or even those songs. ur around the same age as me right? prince was def not a staple of our generation

Yeah I wouldn't call him a staple (like mj) but he was someone I definitely heard until high school

Yeah I wouldn't call him a staple (like mj) but he was someone I definitely heard until high school for some reason i thought u were older lol. but i think that's just kinda unique to u. i think most people were like me and knew who he was (kinda) but didn't really get into his music until later on. and i think those of us who got into him as we got older were an even smaller population. most people our age don't fuck with music like prince's
