Bad news is I dislocated my shoulder two days ago and couldn't pop it back in for over an hour, and the doctor ordered that I do no physical activity for two week, so my miles will be a little delayed

So what tips do you have TSK? Since your a much more experienced runner how do I get get better conditioning etc. Short term goal right now is I want to run 2 miles in under 15 min and 3 in under 20 min. I dont know how fast I can run 3 miles havent tried it. it largely depends on how much time you have / are willing to commit to it. you could easily get under 15min in less than a months time with a fairly low-key regimen. There are 2 keys to improving speed, especially in short distances like 2-3 miles. 1) increasing aerobic capacity (endurance) and 2) increasing anaerobic capacity (speed). if you only work on endurance, you'll improve slowly and eventually be able to run a similar pace for 3 miles and you can for 5. if you only work on speed you'll plateau pretty early. if you're able / willing to commit to 3-4 days of training a week, here is what i'd do if i were in your shoes: m: 2-3 miles easy tu: off w: 1 mile fast (jog a little to warm up and cool down) th: 3 miles easy f: off sa: 4-5 miles s: off To improve, you just have to be consistent. if you break down this program, you're really not committing that much time - <30 mins on m, w, and th and ~40 mins on sa. Even if you bump it down to just 3 days a week but have a variety of a longer run, a faster run, and an easy run you'll see improvements.

Thats more of general ideas, but here are some specific stuff too:
- stretch for 5 minutes every time you finish running. it'll feel so damn good once you get flexible - go slow when you feel beat up. you're still developing your aerobic base even if you feel like you're not working that hard - when you're actually timing yourself on a 2 or 3 miler, try to run as consistent as possible. especially when you're by yourself, the easiest way to run a fast time is by allowing yourself to only slow down 5-10 seconds per mile at most. - have to find some way to have fun with running. even if it's only once a week, use it to clear your head / meditate, but if you're not at least somewhat enjoying it you're gonna struggle.
