Moe: The Blackcoat's Daughter - 2015 - horror. This was a pick for a stream after tsk ditched us like Will's dad. Typically this type of movie doesn't fare well for streams because you're supposed to pay close attention to these type of films which is very true for this. However, watching it in a stream was actually quite beneficial for the same reason which is to say that this movie was very confusing and all over the place. It took the combined theories of myself, chrome and suguru to decipher the lunacy that was displaced in this very slow horror. This movie takes its time and even comes across as a drama for most of it but when shit goes down, shit really goes down. This thing gets very intense and is worth the payoff for those that want their horror movies to be...well horror movies. Otherwise, the film is shot really well I thought. I liked that aspect about it even when I wasn't really that invested in what was happening during some parts. I don't want to get into any plot details but I recommend this for anyone who is okay with a slow burn. 8/10

Moe: Intruders - 2016 - thriller
. The basic premise of this movie is that three guys break into the home of a woman who suffers from a phobia of being outside. She stays in her house and has for 10 years. They don't know this but they do know she has a lot of money hidden in her home. Very reminiscent of Don't Breathe. Pretty fun movie that takes a lot of turns and keeps you guessing and judging the morality of all the characters just like Don't Breathe. Recommended. 7/10

TSK: [REC]. 2007. Found footage / infection. A television reporter and cameraman follow emergency workers into a dark apartment building and are quickly locked inside with something terrifying. For those of you familiar with the 2008 American Movie Quarantine, [REC] provides the inspiration for Quarantine. These kind of movies are super easy to get into because the premise is so simple and fun to follow along. Like imagining what you would do if you were in these types of situations is one of the biggest reasons I watch a lot of horror movies. I had a couple of problems with this movie - namely how they used the found footage aspect. I have a really hard time when the cameraman is literally just a cameraman during found footage movies. If you're in a situation like this, you wouldn't be an utter waste of space incapable of performing even the most simple tasks. But this cameraman was not only worthless, he was probably detrimental. Overall it's a solid movie with  cool concept, but if you've seen Quarantine there is no reason to watch this because it is a shot for shot remake of this movie. The main girls was way better than Jennifer Carpenter tho. I'll give this a 7/10. 

Moe: Kristy - 2014 - horror/thriller. Bunch of weirdos target a girl while she's on campus alone. The leader of the weirdos is an annoying methhead looking bitch who I hated the moment she appeared on screen. Satisfying ending. Movie is okay. 6/10

Sugur101: Styria. 2014. Horror/Mystery. This movie could have easily been forgettable horror fare, but it manages to rise above mediocre cash-grab status because of the clear effort put into the sets, the atmosphere, and the casting. Whoever was making this movie really had a firm vision and loved this project enough that it shows in the smallest of places.

The movie takes place on a Central Europe abandoned mansion, which instantly seems imposing and intriguing and... perfect for any kind of horror movie, while not being over the top "scary shit happens here". Combine it with the really careful way this movie is shot, with the color tones and the subtle grain of the cinematography, the pauses and the close ups and you already have something that if all else was bad, it'd be at least great to look at.

But then the filmmakers took another step away from mediocrity by putting together a great cast for a film with such a low budget. The Laura in this film plays a really spacey and adventurous/sweet role, while also looking pretty close to losing her mind and curling up on a small corner for the rest of the movie. Very fine line, that one. She also, in a way that I'm not really sure is just mandated by the script, looks completely amazed by her co-star Carmilla, who really is a revelation in this film. The actress that plays Carmilla, Julia Petrucha from who the fuck knows but they make gorgeous people, is the single most memorable thing about this film. The dialogue given to her is sometimes a bit too heavy and quasi-poetic in a kind of silly way, but damn if she doesn't pull it off by sounding so proud and certain of what she is saying. Laura's father, Stephen Rea, is the veteran actor here who is just picking up a seasonal paycheck, but he's the boring and non-meddling type that this movie needs to make Laura's escapades plausible.

Anyways, I'm rambling. The plot? It's refreshing for a vampire movie. There's no Dracula descendants or blood fixation or any of the usual trope shit. It's suicides and curses. And mental breakdowns. The twist at the end was pretty neat, if not really earth shaking in significance. Just a solid story and solid characters and solid direction. All works together to make a perfectly fine late afternoon watch. A warning though? After watching Julia Petrucha in this movie, you might spend quite a bit of time trying to find everything else she's been on, and if she has nudes, and using google translate to find specific scenes and shows in foreign language pages anda .... oh. Wait. No. That was just me. Totally worth it though. PM me for the nudes.
