Patlabor I think is still my favorite all time mecha. I'm guessing you must be going by the entries you watched. Patlabor 3rd movie is rather weak. More then any other mecha I just love the characters. I can see that, but for me, like most other mecha, I don't really have a character that is a stand-out favorite. They're all in the solid at best. I don't know what's it about mechas and me not liking the characters as much as some other series. The near future setting is a cool twist on it as well. Eehh, I haven't seen anything other than the mechas to indicate a near future setting. They used landline telephones in one of the OVA episodes

Love that battle with Noa and the type zero at the end. That was dope especially when she was going to fall off but wrapped the wire around the type zero's neck, climbed up out of her mecha suit and get on top of the type zero and was firing constant shotgun blasts at the OS. Gave me a wicked smile Second movie goes full on Oshii Not there yet, but I have high hopes since the first movie was definitely well executed. My favorite movie (so far) of his creation.

Only could think of 7 favorite characters (6 franchises) that actually piloted some sort of mecha and several characters that are actually mechas.

I actually found more (Katsura piloting a mech on a special and Rikka Takanashi piloting an imaginary mech through a special)

That opening sequence is art. That was magical. Goddamn. I can feel the intensity, the atmosphere. That scene couldn't have been executed any better.
Also, NOW I see the future devices being implemented with this second movie. I didn't see it in the predecessors

The tv series was what really sold me on them. 63 episodes gives you a lot more opportunity to develop those characters.

Sweet. I need a good time to start binging and looks like this weekend will be a good start I am liking Goto the most.

I am beginning to really love well animated cel action animation to the point in which I would say I would prefer to today's best animation. I have seen numerous times (Bean Bandit, Macross DRYL + Plus, Patlabor, Gunbuster, Yamato movie, Cowboy Bebop movie, etc) and was just stunned at how enjoyable it is, pleasing and comfortable to the eyes in addition.

As I've gone deeper into older anime I've had the exact same experience. Something about cel animation that can't be beat. Now that you've seen the Patlabor movies be sure to check out Angel's Egg. Weird as hell but visually stunning.

Yeah. I can't quite put it to words. I feel it's more detailed, polished, less reliance on effects/filters to mask errors, has more "character", "soft" look yet can still look gritty/dark, smooth in color, etc. The things it can't compare to today though is the diverse color palette (to be expected) and just not worth the hassle of going to animate extreme detail through handdrawn when you can use computer graphics (machines notably) I have it planned but not added to my list yet. Trying to get as close as to 0 in my ptw excluding not yet aired shows before i dive into more. I at least want to watch some of the Mobile Suit Gundams (Thunderbolt, war in the pocket, ms08th team), Urusei Yatsura (which is now the longest finished series in my ptw), Yuu Yuu Hakusho, etc. I hear Angel's egg doesn't have much dialogue and does much of the storytelling through interesting visuals which is what texhnolyze episode 1 did.

Ok. After going a little deeper into Patlabor TV OVA, it's pretty much confirmed that Gotou is my favorite. He has excellent foresight, uses his wits to make great use of his personnel while being aware of possible chemistry deficiencies, does as much as he can to minimize his own effort but remain efficient/productive, more of the "not doing something that one would think will help the situation actually might be the better option" all the while being calm/laid back throughout, keeping expressionless poker face, perform research behind the scenes kind of guy to not draw himself too much of an attention from other staff members in an effort to make the operation a smooth success

Some of the SOL Patlabor episodes are not only rarely done in the medium (if at all), but quite realistic of what may happen Also that American stereotype

Couple of things that I also like about Patlabor is the ground mecha battles and the mecha "realism" it places i.e. the mechas' leg joints can break due to intense pressure placed on it, can break due to lifting of other mecha because it has to deal with its own weight AND the opponent

Is Urusei Yatsura the oldest anime to involve a cuck (that isn't a hentai one)?
Also surprising that darling didn't become more of a hit with future anime until Darilng in the FranXX

You talking about Ataru? I wouldn't really consider him a cuck.

By the way, since I know you love Lum, I don't know how you are able to watch this series without being pissed or frustrated at the fact that Ataru OPENLY treats her improperly despite his typical perverted personality (could have had sex with her for ex already) and wants her gone so he can date Shinobu. I wouldn't want Lum to be hanging around this dude for her own sake. To put in shorter words, I wouldn't like the series at all and think Lum is the only thing carrying the series.
But I guess if you want a loyal waifu, she certainly has greatly demonstrated this already
(That and you might like the idea of shocking development in bed ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) )

I can't hate Ataru, he's too fun a character, especially compared to a lot of the bland MC's of modern anime. The Shinobu angle kinda goes away early on too, I mean he chases after her like every other girl he sees, but once Mendo is introduced she's kinda dropped as a potential pairing. Ataru does start to appreciate Lum more as the series goes on as well, and they get some nice moments throughout the series. Lum's personality softens quite a bit as the series progresses as well.
Also the 2 storyline per episode format goes away at episode 20, that's when I feel it starts to get real good.

Also I know Lum is a demon, but when she opens her mouth wide showing her teeth, it isn't pretty to see Also the 2 storyline per episode format goes away at episode 20, that's when I feel it starts to get real good. I'm seeing something different. Two episodes actually are combined into one in the 20s
