I'm having a hard time seeing old man Ford pulling off the action stunts he did in Kingdom, and they were already pushing it in 2008.
But since they're dead-set on bringing him back, I wouldn't mind the idea of presenting parallel dramas, one focusing on the last adventure of Indiana Jones in 1968, and one being a prequel focusing on the journey of a young recasted Indy becoming the man we see in Raiders of the Lost Ark. The stories could even connect to each other, the latter having an effect that ripples on into the former's story.
Disney doesn't hate money enough to end the franchise here.

Recasting Indiana would be awful.

Recasting Indiana would be awful. Wrong. You're just not open-minded enough. Rosez knows. Kind of.

It wouldn't be as offensive as recasting Han Solo.
And that's already happening.

"Ford just is Indiana" doesn't even make sense anyway considering he's already been played by other actors like River Phoenix, Corey Carrier, Sean Patrick Flannery and George Hall.

I agree with Shade. Recasting Indy isn't a huge deal. Honestly the franchise should be hung up at this point.

Franchise should've been hung up after The Last Crusade really.

If they re-cast, I still say John Hamm should be Indy. Dude is pretty perfect.
This movie will be butt if Lucas has any involvement.

Bringing Ford back would work if only it was like a passing of the torch type thing, but then the franchise wouldn't be "Indiana Jones" moving forward. They should have recasted if they were dead set on forcing a new movie out of the franchise.

The appeal of the Indiana Jones films is that we all secretly want to be Indy. We want to be that young swashbuckling adventurer who punches people, is single, sleeps around, can shoot and kill Nazis without consequences, can bed any of his students, and crack a bullwhip.
He's the man's man from old adventure serials. He isn't some terribly complicated character that can only be played by Harrison Ford. None of us wants to be a grumpy 75-year-old man.
Recasting him isn't the death of the franchise. I'm fine with Harrison coming back, but don't make him have to carry the whole film with crazy action stunts like Crystal Skull. Let's be realistic.

Plus I'm not sure if there's anything that makes Harrison as Indy iconic. The most pop culture relevant things are the infamous boulder run and the fedora reach back scene.

If Harrison Ford can play the Sean Connory role in The Last Crusade and have a protegee he can teach, I think this could be awesome. Grumpy, funny Ford will fill that role perfectly.
But if they expect Ford to be running around, performing insane stunts, well... that will be bad news.

If the future movies revolve around the protégée, should it still be called Indiana Jones movie forward? Assuming Ford does this movie and then they continue on without him in the franchise.

I think they'd rather just reboot the franchise with a recast.
That "Indiana Jones" title is too valuable.

The new protegee can adopt the name Indiana Jones, while the original Indy retires off into the sunset. It can be a proper reboot of the series, while keeping the legacy of the previous installments intact.
