寂しいマグナエクス Well I'm not sure. Whenever I've seen Bird, he's been extremely quick with his decisions. Tons of touch passes. He'll steal the ball and in the same motion get it down the court, or receive a pass, and in a fraction of a second, redirect it to a guy more open. In general, I'm not somebody who believes that guys who are high volume scorers are going to be the players who move the needle the most offensively, rather for me it is about creating opportunities for others. I'm always looking to watch more footage, so I could change my mind. You can hide a defender on the perimeter though. The Celtics (and later Heat) did it with Ray Allen. There's some crappy narrative of Curry being a plus defender, but I have him as a net negative on that end. You can pretty much hide one guy 1-3. Bird did play a portion of his career at the 4, I acknowledge that. However when he did, it was in an era where you had two traditional bigs playing the 4 and the 5. Today, one of your big men will be on the perimeter for the most part, or an athletic player. Bird by his own admission struggled with athletic 3s, and was happy that the team defense was structured so that there would be a man behind him at all times (he said this explicitly in his autobiography "Drive", which came out in either 88 or 89). I'm not going to praise Magic's defense at all. It's pretty abysmal. Just like Nash's. But as I said, I am far less concerned about hiding a single perimeter player defensively than I am about hiding a big. , you are placing a ton of stress on your defense, and need one, possibly two plus defenders. But if your big man doesn't have lateral quickness, and can't rotate/recover quickly enough to deal with the athletes today, you're in big trouble. I have no problem agreeing to disagree. (One last note on Magic vs Bird, keep in mind that I do handwave Magic two more seasons, that he should have been able to play in 92 and 93. I know it's a contentious point, but if he was in today's league, he would play those seasons. With those extra seasons, Magic has a fourteen year career. Bird showed flashes when he came back, but from 90-92, he wasn't able to be the same player he was before the surgery to remove bone spurs, or whatever his condition was. I'm someone who is big on longevity, so even if Bird was superior to Magic on average--which I wouldn't necessarily concede, but will for the sake of this hypothetical--I would still have Magic ahead. Same reason I have Duncan ahead of Jordan, even though the latter almost certainly peaked higher.) It can yeah, but you can also get some pretty awesome team offenses. Look at SAS, GSW (when they're not in hero-ball mode), ATL, DAL. All squads that work to get great open shots. Some teams have a lot of drive and kick (CLE and OKC are two of the biggest culprits, and I hate watching both offenses), since they have tremendous athletes for ball-handlers, who can raise the floor of the offense. But some of the other teams that work to get their shots play some beautiful basketball, and can achieve greater ceilings than the drive and kick teams.

Great well thought out posts here! Obviously I cannot respond to every post but I am going to put up my top 10 players I have actually watched throughout regular season. That eliminates guys like Jordan, russell, magic, anyone before 2000.

Shaq (I would put Kobe and Shaq interchangeably - while Kobe was better player and had better career overall, Shaq had 4 most dominant godlike UNSTOPPABLE seasons in NBA history right up there with Wilt, feud with Kobe destroyed team chemistry with locker room split in half, Phil/Kobe issues, Shaq/owner Jerry Buss feud over contract, Phil/Jimmy Buss friction in Buss family since Phil & Jeannie Buss were banging) 4. Kobe 5. KG 6. Steph Curry - best shooter in NBA history, if only he was not a choke artist in Finals this season 7. Durant 8. D-Wade 9. Chris Paul 10. Dirk Nowitzki - model of consistency, rarely hurt, 2nd best shooter on this list, and greatest range for a big men in NBA history Honorable Mention: -Steve Nash -T-Mac -Allen Iverson - greatest little guard pound-for-pound in NBA history -Paul Pierce -Chris Webber -Yao Ming -Jason Kidd -Chauncey Billups -Carmelo Anthony -Dwight Howard

Me personally, I'm huge on career accolades and basic career stats, none of that Defensive or Offensive rating stuff. Durant may have had a higher peak than Wade, but my goodness Wade's career accolades crush Durant's by a large margin. As for the rest of the list, I'd say it's pretty accurate since it's post 2000; definitely the most dominant players of our generation

Thing with Wade is his body has taken a huge toll since 5 years into his career. Durant has been perfectly fine from durability aspect, except for the one broken foot, in the long haul. Out of 13yrs, Wade has played over 70 games 6 times. Durant out of 9 seasons has played over 70 games 7 times. Wade has too many durability issues. Durant will last next 12-13 years easily barring any major major injuries. Wade doesn't and never truly had as much of a complete game as KD. KD's impact is muuuch greater than Wade on both ends of the field! Durant has better stats in regular season and playoffs too except for assists per game. www.landofbasketball.com/player_comparison/kevin_durant_vs_dwyane_wade.htmIf we focused on accolades too much, I would have to remove chris paul and maybe Dirk too. I would have to put steve nash and pierce/iverson in there. I don't really want to do that. I would also have to bump up kobe to #2 above Duncan, but I don't want to go there
