Crazy to think Detroit is the only franchise to pull it off and look at where they are nowadays ? Barely making the playoffs and had the 3rd longest playoff drought in the NBA before this season. Even success hasn't exactly been stable for them (Detroit has a losing all-time record @ 2616-2752, .487 W-L%).
That's why it's nuts to talk about any team blowing up or trading major franchise talent unless they are making it clear that they want out of their franchise. You either commit to winning and going far every year or your in a struggle to stay up float.
Not everyone agrees on how many true super-elite difference-making superstars there are in the game, but it’s a short list. And the history of NBA champions is a history of superstars. Since 1980, there have been three champions without a starter who was a past or future MVP: Detroit in 1989 and 1990, and Detroit in 2004. That’s it. The jump from good to great is a chasm. It’s the difference between going to New Zealand, and going to the moon.
