That's true. Pelicans lowkey don't want to pay him the bonus.

Raptors clinch a playoff spot and are 1 game behind the Cavs for the 1st seed. You're welcome. I reserve the right to withdraw my "you're welcome" if the Raptors play the 8th seeded Bulls in the first round.
It seems the Raptors have not clinched a playoff spot yet, but will do so if they win next or with a Bulls loss. But thank you for the win on Saturday.

Its never been much of a secret hes an empty stats guy. Borderline top 10 probably. First of all, they lucked into that playoff "run" (got swept; thankfully they weren't the worst sweep of those playoffs and it was GS that swept them). If OKC has Durant, they aren't in the playoffs. They got there on a tie breaker. Looking at the talent on the floor, it's hardly "too good" to be winning less than 30 when they are missing games too. I don't know if WS/48 (league average is .100) is a great indicator of talent alone for an advanced stat, but all his teammates rank below .100. AD absolutely underachieved this year to the hype he was getting and he needs to stay healthy, but he's only 23 years old and will definitely be a keeper for any team once he gets the right guys are around him. How is an "empty stats" guy considered borderline Top 10 anyways ? Emlty stats is a statement pertaining to the value of the closeness of his game impact and his stats. He puts up crazy stats but there are guys with way worse stats who do way more. Id take both Aldridge and Kawhi over him in a heartbeat.

Kawhi has definitely improved to an elite category, though, so credit to his development as a player. Aldridge is a vet, so I would also give him the edge. I would like to imagine Davis would be as good, if not better if he was on the Spurs. Empty stats should be reserved for a player who scores either average or inefficiently on bad teams. Davis just has a bad squad around him and most of them were all banged up, including him. Where do you see all the guys banged up for the Spurs ? I mean, David West is their 6th or 7th best player this year and he probably would be the Pelicans 2nd best guy all season.

I dont agree with any of that. West is a gold bench player, but hes old. If it wasnt for injuries, Davis's teammates would be perfectly capable. Asik is DPOTY caliber on his own for example. If Davis went to SA his stats would fall back to earth like Love's. At this point he's basically another love. Puts up great stats but those stats are relatively empty. He basically defines empty stats. Hes not in an irreconcilable situation like Cousins or something.

You have to ask what Davis would be like on a championship caliber team, and right now its definitely not the first option, and its definitely not getting the ball enough to score 25 ppg. Hes a very good player, but as of right now, hes not first option caliber on a good team.

Asik wouldn't be a DPOY candidate ever imo. New Orleans has some solid individual players but they're a lacklustre team.

Pelicans need to blow it up and this time, not throw away 1sts to speed up the rebuilding process.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_advantage@f So basically it says that even if youre the worst at making every single product in the world, you can still make gains from trade. So for basketball you could break it down so that every player has a set of skill rating from 1-10. Maybe it could be passing, rebounding, off the ball scoring, on the ball scoring and shot creation, passing, individual defense, and team (mostly interior) defense. Lets also assume that these skills (or most of them) have diminishing returns the more you add them. In other words if you add one 10/10 passer, youd make a large increase in wins, but the second would add less, the third less, and the fourth mostly useless possibly. Also, the better passer will take most of the passing duty, even if the second best passer is very good, which means the second passers value is actually less than that of an ideal situation. I think these are pretty self evident truth in bball, although less so for some skills than others. So now, Lebron James is the perfect example of all this. If you have lebron, who is very ball dominant, you can look throughout his career and see for the most part players around him suffer from a decrease in productivity unless they have skills that are irrelevant to his. Lebron is very ball dominant, and whatever skill he is good at, he basically makes other players irrelevant in that arena, thereby kind of declining his real value in basketball terms, unless you just stuff the team with role players. Wade, Bosh, Love are perfect examples. Since Wade was basically Lebrons equal his first year, we saw this effect dampened. It was a scenario where you had two guys who were both 9/10 in a lot of categories make eachother a bit worse in each, and Bosh of course suffered a lot. Lebrons second year Wade declined a bit more, and you saw him move to a more defensive role where his skills didnt clash as much. Kyrie avoids this some by being a great shooter who plays off lebron. You can really apply this sort of thought process to every player. Whereby players who are multifaceted in their scoring have less of a negative impact on their teammates than Lebron often did. I would like to make a model that shows this, but its a very tough prospect.

This kind of kills some of the problems with advanced stats, which dont take situations into account.
So I kind of forgot to explain how this is relevant to comparative advantage. Well, if you have a 10/10 scorer and an 8/10 scorer, the 8/10 scorer might "trade" his next best not competitive skill with the team instead of scoring, which is the best scenario for the team, hut overall makes him less valuable, or youll see greatly diminished returns from his scoring.

寂しいマグナエクスI understand what you're saying now. This is a concept that a lot on the RealGM Player Comparisons board have played around with. Not precisely quantified, but the quality has been called portability. More portable players tend to be more additive in a variety of circumstances. It's still a fuzzy concept, but a lot of us when evaluating players do so on a basis of both ability to impact the game (something like RAPM, which tries to isolate how much you affect point differential) and how portable you are. It's harder to have that additive value on a better team, so even last year, that was central to the argument for Curry over Harden (since Steph was improving a very good team -> an all-time one, rather than a decent/below average one -> a very good one). I think it's a cool idea for sure, though I'm concerned about much more than offense/defense splits (since everything on both ends is interconnected a ton). Though different elements of a guy's game are more portable/conducive to being additive. Would be fun to play around with it more, I'll try and think about your post a bit this week when I have some free time.

You can delete this one, or maybe reassign my posts. I only made the 'f' because I wanted to go under the radar in case there was a mole, but it looks like this is a long-term solution, so I should probably register fpliii.

If you can't transfer them that's fine. Would ask that you delete the 'f' account either way. Looks like it's going to ask me which username I want to sign in with if I have two.

That's one thing that I've liked from RealGM. There can only be a finite number of possessions, so utilizing each possession at its most efficient makes for a better all-time great team. Even if head to head, one player is lesser than the other, that one player's additive effect of playing well with all 4 of his teammates opens another dimension of danger for the opposition moreso compared to the other. If it's just comprised of lesser players, then yeah, portability would be worth less because you need legitimate threats.
