The Blazers lost 4/5ths of their starting roster last offseason, and everything was looking grim for this year. Prior to the season starting, Vegas picked the Blazers to win 27.5 games this year. For some context there are only 2 teams in the entire NBA with less than 28 wins this season, the Lakers and Philly.
Now 81 games have passed and the Blazers have 43 wins and will likely take the 5th seed in the west. Saying they have overachieved is an understatement, they flat out smashed the wildest expectations of even the biggest blazer homers.

That's an amazing thing to see. They have proven that they have one of I'd say top 3 backcourt players in the league. Lillard is also damn good at being motivated when he is being overlooked in some way. He already surpassed Roy in scoring this season too. Several teams underachieved to help the Blazers reach this point Kings should have played better Rockets underachieved. Pelicans underachieved. Got hit with several injuries, but Davis was disappointing compared to his godly statistical last season Timberwolves underachieved in the sense of the talent they have

I remember they came out strong the first week, then went on a losing streak and thought this was the lottery team everybody expected to see. By Allstar break they were still in the 8th-6th place race. I think they just took the 5th last month after Memphis' injuries finally caught up to them and the Mavs having a bad March.

Also, it's weird seeing a 5th seed Western team with 43/44 wins. Normally 50 wins is needed to get the 7th or 8th. lol

They don't have the discipline and a weird offensive identity where there's a significant number of post ups, but lacking shooters

Under Saunders, I believe the players would have had much better discipline and would have been in the playoff hunt at least. I didn't think Timberwolves would have made the playoffs necessarily myself, but I'm sure a good amount were expecting them to be better than they were and having them pegged as the 8th seed
