The lightsaber fight with the red royal guard storm troopers was awesome. Them fighting over the lightsaber was weird...why did kylo want that when he had his own? idk there were a lot of things I can nitpick on this movie, certain things just stuck out to me. Maybe I just compared it to Empire too much. They need to kill off all the old characters and stop referencing the past, if they would just start up a new story line with new characters and stop talking about the older characters, might have been able to handle the story better. Kylo wanted it because he idolizes Anakin/Vader. That's what they're doing, only Chewie, R2, and C3PO (and technically Lando) are still alive both in real life and in the movie. The entire point of the dialogue Kylo/Rey had was about abandoning the old ways and setting up something new. Which is the turning point for the film, and then the lightsaber fight happens and it breaks which is the symbolism for that moment. With the books and temple destroyed, Luke dead, Snoke dead, and Rey and Kylo being alive they have the power to shape the future of both the Jedi and Sith. Kylo wanted to abandon both sides and start anew with Rey and she believes that the Jedi still have a place in the universe so she wouldn't join him. Rey is a stuck up bitch lol Why is the rebellion all chicks other than poe and finn? They don’t stand a chance!

matt reeves has been my guy for episode ix since before trevorrow was even announced seemed like a pretty obvious pick, two latest apes movies were both highly successful, really well-liked, smart blockbusters, and he made cloverfield with abrams maybe he just didnt want to do it, or maybe his movies arent light hearted enough, idk Not that there's not lighthearted moments, but this was a pretty dark Star Wars film. Yeah its the funniest one for sure but there's a lot of sad shit in it. it was all about heroes failing

Not that there's not lighthearted moments, but this was a pretty dark Star Wars film. Yeah its the funniest one for sure but there's a lot of sad shit in it. it was all about heroes failing I wouldn't say that. Leia didn't fail. Poe failed, since it was all about him learning to be a better leader. Finn didn't really fail. Del Toro's character helped them out till the betrayal, he beat Phasma, he didn't destroy the doorbreaker thingy, but both he and Rose lived. Rey somewhat failed to bring Luke back, and failed to bring Kylo back to the light for sure but she got him to move away from the Sith so that's not a full blown failure. Luke succeeded in everything he wanted. It was just a movie about everyone learning to be better than they were. Poe a better, wiser leader. Finn not to be a coward. Rey to....er...be a good rock lifter. Luke to understand that it is okay he failed Kylo but he doesn't need to shut himself off from the force. Leia to perform space magic.

Last time she had that happen she had that weird sequence of her going to the dark side and Luke freaking out on her and the diving into the cave imagery and she came out all wet and stuff. Then she was just supposed to lift rocks too.

Leia to perform space magic. poe failed twice and got people killed twice by trying to pull off out there heroic schemes rose and finn failed badly trying to be heroic, the whole casino thing was just a massive failure, trusting some random prisoner was a failure, they failed once they got in there with the dumb bb8 disguise rose failed a second time by smashing into finn and almost killing herself instead of just letting him die and save the door rey waltzed in thinking she'd said kylo and failed badly in another "heroic" attempt that was just a failure it was basically the theme, crazy heroics aren't always going to be right and sometimes young people should listen to older people.

they cranked the diversity metre too high i think, so many chicks, asians, mexian, indians and black characters. it's like they suddenly discovered multi cultural planets for the first time
would not be surprised if finn and poe are gay (finn's kiss was awkward and his rey thing seems kinda friendzoney plus he asked about rey's 'cute' boyfreind in awakens instead of just saying do you have a boyfriend and poe seems quiet gay) and rey could be a lesbian too maybe with that irish rebellion chick. kylo could be gay too.
ramp up that diversity

Disagree on Finn and Rose failing. They didn't get the right guy but succeeded in everything else. Got a capable hacker, freed the camelhorses, and made it back in time to execute the original plan. They just got betrayed, something they weren't entirely in control of. Rose didn't fail at all lol. She accomplished what she wanted to do: save Finn and teach him that you have to save the things and people you love, and to not right away or take the coward's way out. I don't think Rey badly failed. Did she turn Kylo away from the Sith? . Did she turn him to the light? No. But she accomplished something.

leia chick general her replacement chick general (should have been an alien!) poe mexican del torro peurto rican rose chick and asian finn black man rey chick
i don't have a problem with the diversity but it does seem odd after the original star wars had so little, kind makes me want some more aliens in the main cast too. for such a big universe with so many varied characters the only alien race we really have is chewie now right? and that maz video game animation girl. the originals and prequels felt much less of a human dominated universe

i really feel the theme was mocking the usual heroics in movies like the other star wars where authority figures and patient things end up wrong and the brash heroic actions always save the day and turn out amazing or they just trust randoms they meet and that works out fine.

Nah, they burned in the temple. there was a shot of them in the falcon I'm pretty sure they were in the temple. Otherwise why burn the thing? There'd be no point since there's other temples in the universe. The one on Coruscant was repurposed into a palace, yeah a lot were destroyed but there's at least (presumably) still that one.

and also "there's no way out of this cave"
"here's a way out of this cave"
also those ice fox things only existed for that one plot point which is lazy writing.

they could have also done a cool twist
rey saw kylo going to the light kylo saw rey going to the dark
they could have flipped them, have rey find out her parents were nobodies and shes mad at luke failing and snoke tortures her abit or something and she goes all dark side while kylo watches and doesn't like it because she was the one who was telling him he wasn't alone and being nice to him and he turns good side

I love how they have a plan that will work, but don't tell Poe and let him know. If they would have just told him the plan to begin with, they could have avoided all of that boring shit. It was cool seeing a new planet like that, just did it in the wrong way. point was poe needs to learn to trust others if she just told him the plan from the beginning he wouldnt have learned a thing, wouldn't have developed at all from beginning to end
