OutRosez It was okay. I don't get the RT hype at all. Can we start there? Good starting point. I feel like a second watch is gonna make it a better movie (going again in a couple weeks). Because of all the fake outs and some of the Finn/Rose stuff was boring as fuck. What were your problems with it?

I just don't understand how it has the rating it has based on what I saw. I guess I expected a lot more. I expected a lot more deaths even. Like Finn? Shoulda been outta there. The scene with Leia gets the fake out death but then is somehow alive in space and conscious enough to propel herself to the ship was laugh out loud worthy. I thought it was a dream sequence. It was that bad. I don't have much complaints. I just thought it was more of the same. Kylo is a really well acted, well written character I must say. I am impressed by that the most of this entire film.

I am impressed by that the most of this entire film. The space wizard thing was so bad I was like just leave her dead at that....it makes more sense really and it would have been better. I probably wouldn't have even minded if she hadn't passed out and if she had just done that after the ship was bombed. But seeing her floating for a few seconds and then the coldness of space starting to kill her body and then all of the sudden she's using the force to glide back to the door? lmao. I was like "da fuck". Finn not dying was weird, I was expecting that death and it just seemed ...misplaced? I don't know I really enjoyed the movie but I probably wouldn't give it a 9/10. but like I said, I think it'll be better on a rewatch. Kylo is so well done it is amazing. Its like they set out to do Anakin correctly as the sole focus of both movies. Also not convinced he told Rey the truth about her parents. Seems weird for him to have been all "what girl" in TFA. Just seems super misplaced. Granted they also did just waste Snoke so..... I also really like Poe now as well he benefitted a lot with being able to play off Leia more. I'm kind of annoyed that Luke is dead though. I'm 100% fine with him being dead just not yet. It seems really weird to have done that when Carrie died. Let him live till 9, especially since he wanted to turn Kylo again. And I understand giving each of the original trilogy characters their send off film. I love it. It's great, it works well within the movies because we know what to expect, and its tastefully done (so far), but Carrie's death should have really changed that and only bringing back Luke for one movie was dumb especially when they made him...flawed is a harsh word but they rubbed off the golden boy image he got from Jedi. Which again, I'm cool with but I wouldn't have minded seeing him get some redemption and not just in keeping everyone else alive with a force projection. It was cool but very lame at the same time. Keeping him around as force ghost opens the door up I guess to his return but in a way that runs the risk of diminishing his death, especially since they'd have to heavily rely on him without having Carrie around. Given that they've said they're not going CGI characters anymore it also seems weird too. I had some other nitpicky things to, but I was glad that a lot of the fanservice stuff was done early, but they need to cut it out with the Marvel comedy crap. It's so forced most of the time. Only Leia, Poe, and sometimes Finn can be cheeky and funny. THAT'S IT DISNEY!! STOP IT!!!! Even though one of them did make laugh out loud at a theatre which I'm not sure I've ever done before in my life. I don't remember what it was (it may have been bb-8 using his head to get the weapons system back online but it felt a little later than that for me). The callbacks to the OT were nice, but I'm hoping they're done with that stuff now, especially with all the old characters killed off sans Leia. I do kind of wonder if they thought that the movie was a disaster at first, but then audience test viewings saved it. I mean they were radio silent until October basically and even then only put out one more trailer. It seems like audiences really really liked it so we may be in the minority. It felt Star Wars to me, but at the same time was also very not Star Wars and something on its own which was refreshing especially coming off two so-so movies. I think it'll be a movie that ages well too. I'd probably put it as no worse than the third best movie and probably second. Not sure it would top the charts but it is definitely a great movie.

I thought they handled the comedy stuff really well. Like the part where the dude is getting trolled over the radio. It's supposed to be pretty serious with some serious characters but still funny. I agree Disney fucks around too much tho. What did you think of the final scene with the orphan kids? Do you think it's just a cool ending shot that calls back to new hope and new beginnings or they might actually use that for something in the future? You know what I liked about this movie? The animals. Like for a Star Wars movie or some space epic, the animals were just regular earth animals essentially just kind of made a bit cuter or weirder. Like diamond fox things or little flying hamster things. There was one shot where some giant ass sea monster was breaching in the background of Luke's place. Just little things like that I liked. Speaking of Luke, when the AT-ATs hit him and the red stuff flows into the air, I legit thought that was his body exploding guts and all lol. I was shocked. Then I realized I bet the entire point of the red sand was for this effect alone What's the deal with the new girl and Finn?

Then I realized I bet the entire point of the red sand was for this effect alone What's the deal with the new girl and Finn? The radio stuff was mostly fine, but went a little too long for me. Another example of it being overdone was in the AT-AT how Hux kept saying what Kylo was saying and then Kylo knocks him out? That was so fucking Hulk/Loki I wanted to barf. I agree on the red planet stuff. I was like "wow that's bloody for Star Wars holy shit this is a kids movie kind of" and the kid next to me kinda shuddered a bit. Agreed on the animals. Camel horse things, foxes were dope as shit, Porgs were amaze balls, Nessy was cool. Even the aliens were kind of simple well done stuff, TFA had the aliens but not the animals. I think her purpose was to change who Finn is, he's still a coward at heart but she showed him a reason to fight aside from trying to sleep with Rey. He always wants to run either to escape or to her. He had a brave moment and almost had that hero's death but Rose saved him it was nice. It worked well, just like how Poe's stuff with Leia/pink hair lady was to make him grow as a leader and evaluate situations better. That kiss was awkward as fuck because he didn't want to return it and she confessed she loved him basically, and he's like uhhhhh -record scratch-. EDIT: forgot to talk about the ending scene, that shot was amazing. it showed that they were going to rebuild and were gaining allies and spreading hope. It was great. I'm not sure if they'll use it for the future because of that though. I absolutely loved it.

One thing that's gonna be interesting though with IX is that we won't get to see Rey with anyone to latch on to. It was Han in TFA, then Luke this time, and it was obviously going to be Leia next time.

I was willing to have a huge discussion on it, but I'm so tired of everybody focusing solely on the negative, writing a whole mini essay on it and then saying, "oh, they did xx and yy really well too!" i feel like the people who hated this most were those following it the most
most complaints seem to be about snoke, even though he was only ever set up as kylo's mentor in tfa, and finished that movie saying he had to complete kylo's training, which he did in this before being killed
i think people were hoping there'd be some very mysterious backstory that could be explored in comics and books and shit, but instead he's just not that important to the story
