Feel free to join in.
If you haven't played them, preferably you can just fucking kill yourself or maybe just stay out.

In terms of ranking the series, I'd go with this:
1. MGS 2
2. MGS 3
3. MGS
4. MGS PW
5. MGS V: GZ
6. MGS 4
7. MGS V: TPP

Still have yet to play Metal Gear or Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, which is a shame.
Shit retro as fuck.

Those first three games are in a tier of their own, the holy grail of video games.
Kojima wanted to leave the franchise after MGS 2, decided to step in for MGS 3 when his replacement was doing a shitty job, but he still managed to craft a masterpiece.
By MGS 4, well, he was literally forced to work on that game by the fans. It was too much.
You could see the effect it made on him, even in how Old Snake represented Kojima and his feelings on the franchise at that point.

I kind of wish MGS was ended after Snake Eater.
The rest were just unnecessary. Snake Eater explained perfectly well how and why Big Boss turned bad. We didn't need PW or GZ or TPP to add more and more convoluted shit.
I kind of like the Venom Snake twist in MGS V, but again, it's not necessary. We could have done fine without it.
The series is going to go out with a whimper instead of a bang like it should have. Then again, fucKonami would have ran MGS into the ground regardless of whether Kojima left after MGS 3 or TPP.

I beat the MGS 2 Substance edition. I didn't love MGS 2 all that much at first, it felt very early 2000s, but man, now looking back on it, it's definitely the most nostalgic and inspired of them all. It grows on you. The atmosphere and soundtrack is so perfect, the characters/bosses/plot/twists are all at their wackiest and creative best. It's a work of genius

Snake Eater is the best James Bond film since there ever was a James Bond film.

I wonder when Konami are going to get MGS 1-4 on current-gen consoles.
It's hard going back to the small and shitty PS3 controller. Doesn't help that both of mine are pretty damaged either.

What were your thoughts on MGS 2?
You might have been lost at times without having played the previous games.
Still great without knowing anything though.

I'm very curious to see what Kojima's next project is.
So happy to see him out of fucKonami's grasp. It's obviously not going to be the next MGS game, but if it's anything like his cancelled Silent Hills game?
Mama mia, me gusta.

Hate how Kojima had to go and make him into le badass because the fans didn't understand him in MGS 2.

bladefd, MGS 1 is great, you should try give it another shot. How long has it been since you played the rest? I slightly changed my rankings. At first, I thought I shouldn't put GZ above 4 because of how short it is, but I've changed my mind. If I had to have one or the other, I'd rather have GZ. Really enjoyed that game, even if the main story is only an hour long.

I wonder if we'll ever get remakes of the original MSX2 Metal Gear 1 & 2 games.
They'd probably suck ass without Kojima's involvement.

I doubt a random dev could come out of nowhere and make a game with the same type of heart and cool little things as MGS
Also the games never really felt like rehashes, as they kind of switch things up on you

I could try to play it with my Xbox 360 for Windows controller.. Dunno how it will be heh
